CONCEPT:
A vanitas is an allegorical representation of the fragility of human life and the sufficiency of what humans cling to during it. The most common symbolic elements to express vanity are death, the passage of time, the emptiness of human passions and activities. The objects represented symbolize human activities, study, money, pleasure, wealth, power, compared to elements evoking time which passes too quickly, fragility, destruction, and the triumph of death, often with a human skull.
